Papers, 1943-2000.

Contains Manwill's letters home regarding his time in service during the war. These letters discuss his experiences during training, the living conditions for both military and civilians in India, and the perils of crossing the Himalayan mountains. Prominent throughout his letters are accounts of a large LDS servicemen's conference held on April 21-22, 1945, in Calcutta, India. Contains a letter to LDS servicemen from Chaplain Lee W. Dalebout. The collection also contains Manwill's Patriarchal Blessing, a talk given in church, and a copy of a military bulletin. Also included are two magazine articles, one written by Sgt. Frank T. Monteleone and the other from "Time" Magazine, about the hazardous flights from India to China, and an accompanying map of the Bengal-China air routes. Includes photographs of Manwill, his medals, comrades, LDS Church servicemen, and a C-54 transport plane and cockpit.

Served in the US Army Air Forces during World War II from 1943-1946. Manwill was trained at the Air Transport Command as a radio operator and was assigned to the crew of a C-109 aircraft that transported supplies over the Himalayas to China.
